Member-Swap Day

Today was member-swap day between the Milwaukee Art Museum, Discovery World and Betty Brinn Children's Museum. Since we are members of the art museum we decided to take advantage of today and go museum hopping, especially since Jason had never been to Discovery World. Here are some pictures from our day:

This is a bird's eye view of a great lakes exhibit. It is a scale model of the great lakes, complete with fish and thunderstorms.

Amelia sitting in front of "Milwaukee" in the great lakes exhibit.

Amelia in front of the moon jellyfish exhibit.

Amelia and I in front of one of the many fish tanks in the aquarium wing.

Amelia and I in a pretty sweet chair!

Jason was pretty excited about this part...you pushed a button and put your hand on this metal thing and it created static electricity, as you can see!

There is a Les Paul exhibit at Discovery World right now:

A view into one of the main rooms of the exhibit...the room that holds many of Les's guitars.

A different view of the ever popular iPod. (an x-ray)

A Gibson Les Paul guitar from start to finish.

Jason having some fun at the end of the exhibit, where things were very "hands on".

After Discovery World, we went to the car to eat some lunch (we packed sandwiches). After we ate and took care of other business we walked over to the art museum for a little bit. So far our trips there have been pretty brief, but that is ok, it is giving Jason a chance to get his bearings in there and know what collections they have. I have spent a LOT of time in the art museum over the years for school, so I know what I like (although I will say, they have been switching things up a lot lately and putting out new pieces and taking away some of my favorites (ie-Warhol's soup cans)). I did find a new painting in there that I was drawn to that I had not seen before:

It is by Amerian artist Laura Ownens and it called "Untitled", done in 2003.

Jason made a friend at the museum. He is there all the time...it is a wax sculpture of a janitor. We know that he is not real and yet everytime we see him we do a double-take!

Amelia did well today, for the most part. She got very fussy in the afternoon and we reclined her stroller seat all the way down so she could lay and relax. She eventually took a short nap, which allowed us some time to look around the art museum in peace, but then she woke up and we had to go change her and feed her some more. We think she is going through a growth spurt with how fussy she has been for two days and how much she is eating!

Since the restrooms are on the bottom floor of the art museum, we looked around down there and came across this pretty cool piece of work:

It is by a woman named Beth Lipman, who is from WI. It is comprised of 500 pieces of hand-blown glass! The pieces strewn about on the table are food items, flatware, glasses etc. When we first saw it we though some kid had gotten into and broke parts of it, but then we realized that is how it was supposed to be!

We decided that we would try out the new jogging stroller at the museums today. We actually missed the walking stroller! The walking stroller is able to hold Amelia's car seat (we don't have a travel system for the jogging stroller. If you have the right seat etc you can put the car seat in it as well, but we can't) and we think that if we had had that with us, she might have napped better because we could give her more privacy. Once we reclined the jogging stroller, it was better though. They both have their awesome qualities.

Amelia got some new books today from the art museum. We got her one called "Andy Warhol's Colors" which I think you can figure out by the title...for each color it uses one of his paintings to illustrate it! We also got her one called "Sunday Afternoons with Seurat" which has a different painting by Seurat on each page. Pretty cool!

The only thing that would have made the day better would have been if we had remembered to have someone take a picture of the three of us! We are lacking in the family picture department around here!
