Old Lady or Young Woman?

This is something that I could only see one-sided for the longest time...

For the longest time I was only able to see the old woman...but there is a young lady in there too!

Give it a try, see which you can see!

Member-Swap Day

Today was member-swap day between the Milwaukee Art Museum, Discovery World and Betty Brinn Children's Museum. Since we are members of the art museum we decided to take advantage of today and go museum hopping, especially since Jason had never been to Discovery World. Here are some pictures from our day:

This is a bird's eye view of a great lakes exhibit. It is a scale model of the great lakes, complete with fish and thunderstorms.

Amelia sitting in front of "Milwaukee" in the great lakes exhibit.

Amelia in front of the moon jellyfish exhibit.

Amelia and I in front of one of the many fish tanks in the aquarium wing.

Amelia and I in a pretty sweet chair!

Jason was pretty excited about this part...you pushed a button and put your hand on this metal thing and it created static electricity, as you can see!

There is a Les Paul exhibit at Discovery World right now:

A view into one of the main rooms of the exhibit...the room that holds many of Les's guitars.

A different view of the ever popular iPod. (an x-ray)

A Gibson Les Paul guitar from start to finish.

Jason having some fun at the end of the exhibit, where things were very "hands on".

After Discovery World, we went to the car to eat some lunch (we packed sandwiches). After we ate and took care of other business we walked over to the art museum for a little bit. So far our trips there have been pretty brief, but that is ok, it is giving Jason a chance to get his bearings in there and know what collections they have. I have spent a LOT of time in the art museum over the years for school, so I know what I like (although I will say, they have been switching things up a lot lately and putting out new pieces and taking away some of my favorites (ie-Warhol's soup cans)). I did find a new painting in there that I was drawn to that I had not seen before:

It is by Amerian artist Laura Ownens and it called "Untitled", done in 2003.

Jason made a friend at the museum. He is there all the time...it is a wax sculpture of a janitor. We know that he is not real and yet everytime we see him we do a double-take!

Amelia did well today, for the most part. She got very fussy in the afternoon and we reclined her stroller seat all the way down so she could lay and relax. She eventually took a short nap, which allowed us some time to look around the art museum in peace, but then she woke up and we had to go change her and feed her some more. We think she is going through a growth spurt with how fussy she has been for two days and how much she is eating!

Since the restrooms are on the bottom floor of the art museum, we looked around down there and came across this pretty cool piece of work:

It is by a woman named Beth Lipman, who is from WI. It is comprised of 500 pieces of hand-blown glass! The pieces strewn about on the table are food items, flatware, glasses etc. When we first saw it we though some kid had gotten into and broke parts of it, but then we realized that is how it was supposed to be!

We decided that we would try out the new jogging stroller at the museums today. We actually missed the walking stroller! The walking stroller is able to hold Amelia's car seat (we don't have a travel system for the jogging stroller. If you have the right seat etc you can put the car seat in it as well, but we can't) and we think that if we had had that with us, she might have napped better because we could give her more privacy. Once we reclined the jogging stroller, it was better though. They both have their awesome qualities.

Amelia got some new books today from the art museum. We got her one called "Andy Warhol's Colors" which I think you can figure out by the title...for each color it uses one of his paintings to illustrate it! We also got her one called "Sunday Afternoons with Seurat" which has a different painting by Seurat on each page. Pretty cool!

The only thing that would have made the day better would have been if we had remembered to have someone take a picture of the three of us! We are lacking in the family picture department around here!

Baby Bumbo

This afternoon we decided to go to Target and get Amelia her first chair, a Baby Bumbo. We have been talking about getting her one for a couple of weeks now and decided that we should just do it. They are designed to help a baby sit upright before they can do so on their own. She has been doing really well at holding her neck up on her own for longer periods of time lately, which is necessary for her to use the chair. When we got home I put her in it and she generally seemed happy. She did really well. I was so focused on taking a cell phone picture of it that I forgot to take one on a regular camera. We walked Jason to work and when we got home I tried again with the chair and she was just not having it.

She has been pretty crabby today. She got to bed much later than normal last night and got up much ealier than she normally does today. Since she is not fond of napping, by 6 I had a little girl with major crabby pants on. Here are some pictures of her in her chair, sadly none of them include a smile (yet) since I didn't take the camera out today until she was crabby!

Since she was freaking out (as seen 2 pictures up) I stood up and talked to her, looking down at her face. She calmed down a bit then, but not for long :(

In other news, she seems to want to roll over. This morning she did some tummytime off and on and then once we flipped her to her back so we could get ready to go we noticed her doing this:

Jogging Stroller = Assembled

Yesterday morning we went to lunch at Twisted Fork on the East Side. My sister had given us a gift card for there because in my final hours of Amelia's delivery all I could think about was a peppercorn burger from Twisted Fork. As I was pushing her out it was all I could think of (I mean, I hadn't eaten in a day and a half, food in general sounded great) besides meeting our baby. Once I was in recovery I decided to eat hospital food at first because I was afraid to gorge myself on said burger. It was good yesterday, as always.

Before I left for work, Jason set to work assembling the jogging stroller. We were pleasantly suprised that it was fairly simple to assemble. It took him less than a half an hour. We were a little worried since REI typically does the assembly for you. I did point out that had we ordered it directly from Phil and Ted's, we would have had to assemble it ourselves anyways, so it should be easy (and it was). Here is a picture of him working on it (I took it because I liked the fact that all 3 cats were in the room with him. At this point they had given up "helping" and were just hanging around):

Before I left I put Amelia in the stroller and snapped a quick picture of her in her new ride:

What a big girl she is becoming!

While I was at work, Jason took her on a test drive in her stroller. He took a few pictures once they were outside and ready to go:

(yes, those are headphones hanging from the top. Jason likes to make sure Amelia has tunes when she is out and about. On this outing she listened to the Rolling Stones, Beggar's Banquet)

Poopy has already taken a strong liking to the new stroller, more than once we caught him in the basket (in fact, he was in it pretty much before it was even done being assembled):

We now have three, yes three, strollers in our stairwell. We have our regular stroller, a cat stroller and now the jogging stroller. When we come home from shopping trips it can get difficult to get everything upstairs with all the obstacles! Oh well. I'm glad we have the stairwell to store these things in, can you imagine all the strollers piled into our apartment? Eeek!

Wriggle-Worm

Amelia is a little wiggler! This morning when Jason went to get her she had wiggled her way out of her sleep positioner (which is usually across her torso):

(my caption for the look on her face. "What? I moved. Big deal.")

When babies move themselves, they tend to move head first at first. So why is little Amelia moving butt first and HOW is she doing it? We have no idea. This morning we found her like that twice. She remains a mystery to us.

This afternoon we went to REI to pick up our jogging stroller. I recieved the e-mail that it was in a few days ago, so we went today. Well, I didn't call in advance and the stroller was still not assembled. We were under the impression that we would be assembling it anyways, so I told them we'd take it in the box since we were there. Hopefully tomorrow Jason can start figuring that out and I can try it out this weekend! He thinks he can do it and if all else fails, we can always take it somewhere and get some help I suppose.

Happy to see Ludo...Ludo on the other hand does not seem too thrilled...

She has been sucking up her bottom lip a lot lately. (this is not the best picture of it, she often looks much sillier than this!)

Tomorrow is my day to work and we are used to my shift starting somewhere between 1130 and 1230, but tomorrow I don't start til 345! Maybe we can do something before I go to work? Even if it is just a walk or something around the house I will be happy :)

Ups and Downs Today

Today was full of ups and downs for us. Our first "down" was when we heard a blood-curdling shriek come from Amelia's room. I don't think we have ever gotten up faster! She was in her bed screaming and thrashing about, in her sleep. I was shaking, so Jason picked her up and she eventually opened her eyes, looked at us both and started smiling. Do babies have nightmares? I looked online and people say no, they don't, because they don't know "fear". I think I disagree with this. Something was not right with her at all this morning. Maybe it was a "falling" dream (we've all had those)? You don't need to have been faced with fear to know something is not right when falling in your sleep, right?

Once we were all up for the day, we were able to grab some lunch, hit the grocery store, stop by the Target pharmacy and run to Wal-Mart. A very big "up" for us, getting all of that done before Jason worked at 2 (especially since we didn't all get up til after ten)!

This evening, Amelia and I met my friend Brittany and the three of us went to Honeypie (Jason's new work) for a "dry run" of the restaurant, before they open next weekend. It was good and it was great to finally meet up with Brittany (we have both been sick and busy, so I hadn't seen her in forever!). While we were there, a huge thunderstorm hits. Amelia and I had walked there... Brittany drove us home (I held Amelia's carseat, not the safest move, but it was POURING.), but I had left the stroller with Jason and he put it in his car right away and went back to working. My house keys were in the stroller...oops. At this point it was raining so hard Britt and I could not even hear each other talking so I told her to head to my house. I had left the upstairs door unlocked and I hoped our downstairs neighbors would be home to let me into the stairwell, and therefore into my house. They were! Everything ended well. Amelia is finally asleep now, the thunder kept waking her up for a while.

Amelia has been getting cramped in her carseat with the infant insert in it. Her neck is not quite strong enough to not have it though, it twists too much and I am not comfortable with how she looks, and I can't imagine it is comfortable for her! I remembered the other day that my grandma had given us these things, designed to look like animals, that fit over the harness. I decided to see if those would allow her enough support on her neck, and they did! She has been fussing when we tighten her straps lately but when I tightened them tonight, with the covers, she was grinning ear to ear!

Before bed I also got some more great pictures of her:

Here is a picture from last night, before Jason and Amelia went to Honeypie for their free trial dinner, while I was at work:

It almost seems like they have the same "look" on their faces...

First Movie

Tonight we took Amelia to her first movie. We saw the new Star Trek! She did very well...she slept through the whole thing and it is a loud movie! Since I work at the theatre, we got passed in and since Star Trek is on a "no pass" list we had to get passed in to another movie. We needed a movie stub for her baby book, so after the movie we looked around on the floor for one. For the first time in my experience at the Oriental, I did not find a single stub on the floor! On our way out, we saw a couple that were stragglers like us and I knew Jason was gonna do it...he asked them for their stubs, as I quickly explained the situation. They were kind enough to give us their tickets.

Here is another great picture from today:

Off to Work

We were at Target the other day, wandering while we waited for Amelia's prescriptions (creme for eczema and Vitamin D drops since she is still eating mostly breastmilk, which tends to lack Vitamin D. Once she is on at least half formula and half breastmilk we will no longer need to use these drops) and we came across something we could not pass up. As some of you know, we are the people who dress up their cats...yes, those people. We saw a little tie for a cat for only a couple of dollars and decided to get it. We thought it would look awesome on the little fatty known as Lucky. It does look great and now we joke with him that he looks like he is headed to work/just getting home from the office!

We eventually hope to get 2 more so we can dress all the little monsters up in them (Target only had the one left the other day). Sometimes I wonder about us...

Mother's Day

Well, my first Mother's Day was not at all how I planned it! I went to work, which went fine, I was a little tired because we stayed up late watching Indiana Jones last night, but I felt better than I have in a while. As soon as I got home all that changed! As I walked in from my car, I started to get the chills. I thought it was because I had not worn a jacket and it was a bit chilly out today with the wind off of the lake. I kept getting colder though! I broke out in a fever, again, and had to crawl into bed to try and warm up!
I am bummed for many reasons: we did not get to church tonight as I had hoped (Jason has not gone with us in weeks, probably closing in on months, and we were both going to be able to go tonight); we were going to go see the new Star Trek after church, and were not able to and most importantly, I have not held Amelia at all really (I did hold her for a bit while I bottle was getting ready, but I had to be careful not to breathe on her) today and it is Mother's Day! I don't want to get her sick :(

Jason brought Amelia to me in bed for a bit. She looks so thrilled.

Happy Smiles

This afternoon she was pretty smiley, despite almost running a fever! (I ended up with a fever of 101 the other night, the culmination of my week feeling awful already. We were hoping Amelia wouldn't get it too, but she might be slowly getting a fever too; today she felt pretty hot but was only at 99.5, which is not considered a fever yet when reached with a rectal thermometer).

BIG stretch and a matching BIG smile :)

In other news, this afternoon we finally decided it was time to give Poopy his wish. He can now accompany us onto the deck while we grill. We bought him his own harness and leash. He seemed excited about it, as if he knew what was happening while I put the harness on because he started purring right away! I think he wishes the leash part was longer though...he can't go very far.

I found some good deals at Target today, which excited me. We now have about 1500 baby wipes stored up because Pampers cases were on sale at Target for $12.99 (we bought 2)! I was also able to get us shampoos and conditioners buy one get one free, so we have plenty of that for a while! I almost bought cases of diapers until I realized that the brand we use is cheaper, even when cases of Huggies are on sale! Luvs are the way to go! They work well for us and Amelia, we have had the fewest leakages with them so far!

I need to get off of here now. I have a few things I want to do around here before I pump and head to bed. I have to get up early to be at work by 9 for Key Sunday Cinema Club on Mother's Day...
