Friday Fails - 10-10-10

This has been on crazy week. Know why? It's Black Friday in two short weeks my friends. Work has been craaaazzzzzyyyyyyy. It is evident that I need to sleep a little bit more because of the things I find myself saying. For example, this conversation from earlier this week:

me - K, what day is it? Is it the tenth?
K - yep!
me - (as I write down the date) HEY! It's 10-10-10!
K - No, eleven...
me- (pause) oh yeah...it's November!

*The sad part? When she said, "no, eleven" I was thinking , "why'd she just tell me it was the tenth if now she says it's the eleventh?" Because Shelley, it's the eleventh month...

That conversation actually happened. I have witnesses. I felt so silly. Things like that have been happening all week. I am just so out of it. I blame the fact that I worked last Saturday. I rarely work a Saturday and when I do I am just so messed up on what day it is. I mean, I lost a whole month in there somehow for goodness sake!

So, this week has been full of shoes on the wrong feet, lost household items, dishes all over the counter etc. In short, this week has been full of fails. And to round out the week? I've volunteered to get up at 3 a.m. yet again tomorrow and work on my day off. I have a hard time turning down work this week since there is so much to do and who doesn't love a little overtime on their paycheck?

Friday Fails - Shoe and Child Supervision Fail

When you see this...


...with a curious toddler on the loose, it can't be good! Our darling daughter likes to help herself to the basement to play with, what else, cat carriers.


We really can't figure out the fascination but she loves those things like they are the food she eats!


We really need to be more careful as the stairs to the basement have no railing or side and a little slip or fall could be very serious for her! Sometimes we forget that the door is open (it has to be from time to time since the cat food and boxes are down there and they need access!) and this "fail" happens! We are lucky that she is so enthralled with the cat carriers that she pays no mind to all the other stuff down there she could get into that would be very bad for her!

Last weekend Amelia and I went out to dinner with my family. We were walking in and my mom said to me, "why do her shoes look weird?" I looked down and saw this:


No wonder she seemed so unhappy with me whenever I made her walk! I just figured it was because we were already having a rough day and she was just giving me attitude. I was wrong. Good thing she has a Nana who looks out for her ;)

Friday Fails - TP

We have to make a very conscious effort to keep bathroom doors closed in our house since Amelia has recently learned about the joy she can find in toilet paper. Well, yesterday afternoon I forgot to close the door and I rounded the corner to the dining room and saw this:



I wish I could say this was the first time this has happened...but I can't!

Friday Fails - Diapers and Cards

I have had several "fails" this past week. As usual. Here are a few to share!

We are usually pretty good about emptying out Amelia's diaper pail when it gets full. Sometimes (usually) a few diapers that don't fit sit out and remind us to change the bag. Over the weekend that did not happen. Instead, we used an empty diaper box as a makeshift diaper pail:


I am actually pretty grossed out reflecting on this! The smell? Yeah. I can't even believe we let it go that long. Gross! I got it all cleaned up and got the diaper/wipe corner all organized.


Things have been great since!

My second "fail" to share is about buying cards. Specifically, wedding cards. As you saw in my last post, Jason and I attended a wedding last weekend. I got the gift a few weeks in advance and let it sit in a bag until the day of the wedding. On a trip to Target about a week before the wedding I got a card since I realized I'd be wrapping the gift soon.

The day of the wedding I sent Jason into Target for wrapping supplies and he came out all proud and told me, "I even got a card!" I told him I had got one too and we decided one extra was ok to have around. We got to my mom's house to drop Amelia off and wrap and in the bag with the gift was another card. Yep, I got one the day I bought the gift. I was more on top of it than I usually am apparently!


So, in all we bought three cards for one wedding. Definately a FAIL!

Friday Fails - Diaper Bag Fail v. 3

I have yet another diaper bag fail. You would think I would learn from my preivous diaper bag mistakes but apparently I don't!

This evening I ran to Target and decided not to bring the diaper bag since we wouldn't be gone too long and Amelia had just had a diaper change. Hhmmm. Not such a great idea in retrospect. I ended up meeting my mom and dad for dinner with no diaper bag which meant no baby supplies!

I picked up some more diapers while at Target and already had a case of wipes in the trunk that I got on clearance a few days ago. I was able to change her wet diaper before dinner thanks to my Saturn and it's passenger seat that folds down flat and is hard on the backside! I also have a quad-coupe, so the doors open opposite each other making on wide opening. Like this:



Amelia didn't seem to mind and she was much more calm during this "Saturn" diaper change than she is at home! Maybe we need to make her a changing table out of an old Saturn since she loves her red car so much. Then again, maybe not.

Friday Fails - Mold

I have had so many fails the past few weeks! Some I have forgotten about and others aren't that interesting. One "fail" that I think is somewhat interesting is this one:



Yep, that is what it looks like! We went to our storage unit to get a few things and I discovered my old work shoes completely molded. The shoes were covered in popcorn oil and soda syrup so we figured that was why they molded in the humidity of the storage unit. (Next we discovered Jason's golf bag was molded, so we knew that wasn't it!)

This isn't a true fail on my part but I figured this was a good place to share about it since we did kind of fail...we failed to put anything in the unit to absorb all the moisture! We went today and put a bucket of DampRid in there so that should hopefully help out the rest of this muggy MN summer!

We've had plenty more fails the past couple of weeks like consistently forgetting to bring lists to stores so we get things we don't even need and get things we didn't need on a whim, we didn't bring the mail in for at least 4 days last week and many more!

Friday Fails - Swimsuit Fail

This morning, I was getting Amelia ready to head out back to the pool for a swim. She was so wiggly that this is how I ended up putting her swimsuit on.


BACKWARDS!

I even thought to myself, "this thing might end up on backwards with how wiggly she is. Why won't she sit still?!?" Clearly I knew it was coming ;)

Friday Fails - Diaper Bag (v. 2.0)

I did it yet again! My diaper bag is almost always missing something the past few weeks. Take last night for example. Last night we were at my parent's house and we went to the park after dinner. Amelia, of course, was in need of a bath after playing. So, we gave her a bath and I didn't have any spare clothes! Instead of letting her run around naked, I fashioned her this dress:




It is made out of one of my sister's tank tops! As you can see, it was a little long so I fixed that:


This is what happens when your diaper bag is not stocked! This "fail" has become a weekly one for me. I am not even suprised when I dig and dig and don't find soemthing I need in the diaper bag!

Friday Fails - Diaper Bag Fail

I pride myself on having a pretty well stocked diaper bag. Diapers, wipes, snacks, bottles and maybe even a toy or two. I also keep a change of clothes in the bottom, you know, for emergencies. Well, this past Sunday we had one of those emergencies...

We were out at the Olive Garden for Mother's Day and ended up waiting over an hour to eat because it was just crazy. Well, in that time we had a major diaper leakage. So, I grabbed Amelia and rushed to the back of the crowed restaurant, holding her in front of me since she was soaked, getting stared at by everyone I passed because we looked ridiculous. Well, it got worse...


The spare clothes I had in the diaper bag? Yeah, they were fleece, Christmas jammies. As I was changing my baby into Christmas jammies, her father yelled into the ladies room, "Shelley? Shelley? We got a table. It is right out to the left. I'll wait there". At about this time a woman came out of a stall, laughing, and telling me that we have all been there but when she was there years ago, she didn't have a change of clothes so, as bad as it seemed, I at least had that going for me. She was right!

Note to Self: when re-stocking the diaper bag, check to make sure the spare clothes have been updated for the appropriate season/time of year!

Friday Fails - Bath Fail

What is going on, mom?


After doing laundry on Monday night we gave Amelia a bath in her rubbermaid, in our tub. We didn't dump out her bath water...


...for several days. Every single time I went in there I just looked at it and thought about how I should dump it, but I never did - FAIL! Jason finally did it very late on Wednesday night.

Friday Fails - Phone Fail

Today is Amelia's first birthday and it was just last week that I programmed the number of her pediatrician into my phone... I am serious. Every single time I would go to call and make an appointment or ask a question I would find that the number was not in my phone. I would dig out this card from my wallet:


Last week when I called to make her one year appointment (a tad late, I might add) I realized how ridiculous it was that that number wasn't already in my phone. It is there now:


I still can't believe that it took me one year to program that number in. FAIL.

Friday Fails - Bottle Fail

We have had a busy week. Busier than normal for whatever reason. I have been staring at a pile of dishes the past few days. Whenever I went to make a bottle for Amelia I made a mental note that we only had 3 larger bottles left, then 2 and then 1. Today it happened! We had none. So, her dinner looked like this:


Two bottles, one meal. Ridiculous. I always knew we were almost out of bottles but I never remembered to clean them. Tonight I walked into the kitchen, saw the pile of dishes and thought, "shoot".

Even worse? I had Amelia feed herself the first bottle:


I wanted to get her laundry put away before she went to bed!

Friday Fails - Mail

That package in the picture has been sitting on my backseat since before Christmas. It has some odds and ends in it for my cousin in California. Well, today, after Jason dropped me off at work he went to the post office to get it mailed. Finally. We also had a few other things to mail and stamps to get. However, we still have a few things to mail. We couldn't mail them today because I, of course, bought the wrong size bubble mailers for them:


One day I will get all this stuff sent and out of my hair!

Friday Fails - What a Week!

This week was full of fails for me. Little things that I laugh about now. Some big, some small. So many silly things happened this week. I know I can't think of them all but here are some of the things that I "failed" on this week:


Baby Food Fail: We finally cleaned out the refridgerator this week. Among the things thrown out were avacadoes...avacadoes for baby food. Avacadoes that I bought before Christmas... When we were getting ready to go home for Christmas I realized they were still sitting out so I threw them in the fridge so I could make the baby food when we got back. Well, I never did and now, a month later, I finally parted with them. The apples still seem ok so I can make applesauce this weekend or Jason and I can eat the apples!

Laundry Fail: We did our laundry Monday. Among the things that we washed was all of the guest bedroom bedding because Ludo was holed up in there pre-surgery and we figured we should wash it all since it was covered in litter! Well, it is now Thursday night and this is what the spare bed looks like:


I still have not made the bed! I don't honestly think I will do it tomorrow either! Oops! I might as well have left the dirty stuff on there for the cats to lounge on for another week or two!

Car Seat Fail: This fail is a bit more serious than the others...


See the problem in that picture? One of her buckles isn't done! When I buckled it something must have been caught in there so it came open while we were driving! I need to make sure I double and triple check that from now on! I know it must have been our error because I don't think there is any way she could have gotten it un-done! I am so thankful we weren't in an accident with her belt like this!

I would also label today a "fail". We didn't do one thing today! Amelia got up at one in the morning, finally went back down closer to two and then slept until 1030! Since we don't really set alarms anymore that means we also slept until 1030! We got up, I had a headache (which I often do when I sleep in) so we stayed in our jammies. We ate lunch and then all went down for naps at 1 p.m. Jason left for work right before 3 and Amelia and I napped until 4. What a lazy day! While it was nice to lounge and relax all day, I feel so incredibly lazy and that is why I am calling today a "fail"!

Friday Fails - Christmas Gifts

There is a new blog carnival at myblessedlife.net, Friday Fails. It is a place to share with others things you have "failed" at, things you have dropped the ball on or things you just plain forgot or didn't have time to do! So, what is in this picture:


Christmas gifts... Yes, CHRISTMAS gifts. We had planned to give family framed pictures of our family as part of Christmas gifts. Well, some got them. Some didn't. Major fail.

See, we had some already pictures printed from when we had our family photo shoot last fall. The others, I had (um, have) to order pictures for. Well, December was a crazy month for me with graduation and all. I was so busy doing homework and other things that I just never got them ordered. We got home for the holidays, I planned on ordering them at the Wal-Mart there but I couldn't. They weren't even accepting orders. Go figure.

Needless to say, before the week is up (tomorrow), I will have an order placed on Wal-Mart.com for the pictures to fill the frames. I hope that by the end of next week I have those frames filled, boxed and shipped! I feel so terrible that we didn't have them at Christmas and even worse that they are still sitting in my house. It's hard to get things done sometimes!
